Dr Mick Wilkinson is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Inclusion & Social Justice, University of Hull. He is also Senior Researcher at the Contemporary Slavery Research Unit, Wilberforce Institute, Hull. He has been researching and writing on issues of social justice for over 20 years. He has undertaken key research for a number of Government departments, most recently the Home office and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and he has provided evidence on contemporary slavery for use by MPs and MEPs in key debates in both the English and European Parliaments. On slavery issues he works closely with a range of interested parties including the UK Human Trafficking Centre, Anti Slavery International, the Migrants Rights Network and the Gangmasters Licensing Authority. He is joint author of a definitive Home Office study on the local impacts of international migration and of the recent influential Joseph Rowntree Foundation publication: ‘Contemporary Slavery in the UK’, which is downloadable free at the JRF Website. Mick is currently undertaking research into gender and contemporary slavery in the uk.
